False nails allow you to obtain a neat manicure in a jiffy while hiding damaged nails. Yes, but now, the beauty of false nails is ephemeral and fades when the natural nails grow back after 2 to 3 weeks. If you do not want to make an appointment at an institute to remove your false nails, know that it is possible to do it yourself at home. We explain to you step by step how to do well to remove nails in capsule as in gel.
1. Acetone Bath
Capsule or gel false nails are glued to the natural nail using glue. It is therefore sufficient to bring an acetone-based solvent to dissolve this glue so as to easily remove the false nail. The contact time must however be long enough, of the order of 20 to 30 minutes, to allow the acetone to exert its action.
Thus, to remove false nails, simply follow the 5 following steps:
Start by cutting the false nails as short as possible to facilitate their removal.
Apply a layer of petroleum jelly all around your nails to protect your skin from the acetone remover. The rather long bath that requires the removal of your false nails could indeed irritate your skin.
Pour some acetone-based nail polish remover into a small container that can hold your nails and soak them in for a 20 to 30 minute bath. Take care to fully immerse the entire nail in the liquid.
Once the time has elapsed, wipe your hands and try to take off your nails using a cuticle pusher. The glue, in contact with the acetone product, must have taken on a slightly gelatinous consistency. If the false nails do not come off easily, put your fingers back in the acetone bath for another 5 minutes.
At the end of the removal, remove any glue residue on your natural nails with a cotton ball soaked in solvent or by gently scraping them with a cuticle pusher. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water then apply a protective and moisturizing cream to your hands, paying particular attention to the nails.
2. Nails In Papillote
There is another method to remove your false nails: nail wraps! This is also the method used by most stylists and nail technicians in institutes to remove varnish or false nails.
This method also calls for the use of acetone-based solvent and is broken down into 7 steps:
Cut large rectangles of aluminum foil. You need as many as false nails to remove!
Soak as many make-up remover cotton pads as false nail removers in acetone remover.
Cut your false nails to remove as short as possible then protect the edge of your nails with petroleum jelly.
Place the soaked cotton on the false nail to take off then cover it with a rectangle of aluminum foil.
Leave the papillotes for 20 to 30 minutes.
Once the time has elapsed, remove the twists then take off your nails using a cuticle pusher.
Remove any glue residue from your natural nails, wash your hands well and then moisturize them.
3. Cuticle Repeller, For Acetone-Free Removal
If you don’t want to go through the nail polish remover box or if you just don’t have any, you can do without it by trying to lift your false nails with a cuticle stick.
This method without acetone nevertheless requires a little patience and meticulousness. Start to lift the lift the edge of your false nails with the stick then and cut the raised part with a small pair of scissors. Small embroidery scissors can do just fine if you don’t have manicure or pedicure scissors. Proceed gradually, small pieces after small pieces, so as not to risk damaging your natural nails too much.
4. The Dental Floss Method
As with the previous method, the dental floss method requires lifting the nail by its base using a cuticle stick. Then simply pass the dental floss under the raised part by making small back and forth movements back and forth to gradually take off the false nail.
However, this method can be difficult to implement alone and may require the help of a third party.
5. Sanding
Finally, you can simply sand the surface of the false nail until only a very thin layer of acrylic nail remains on the natural nails. There are small electric sanders specially designed for this purpose.
